Orange alert issued as extremely low temperatures hit BiH

Xinhua, January 7, 2017 Adjust font size:

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) issued an orange alert on Friday for Jan. 6 to 8 due to low temperatures and the possibility of strong winds in the country.

Low temperatures were expected across the country, with strong winds in Herzegovina and western Bosnia, and temperatures on Saturday to drop to minus 24 degrees Celsius in the mountains, said the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute.

The FBiH Administration of Civil Protection (FACP) urged local authorities and departments in charge of cleaning snow and ice from roads to carry out their work as conscientiously as possible in order to facilitate smooth movement of people and goods in areas affected.

FACP listed on its website recommendations issued by the Institute of Public Health of the Sarajevo Canton on what to do in the event of severe winter conditions. Endit
