Xinhua, January 6, 2017 Adjust font size:

At least six people, including two 8-year-old children, were killed in a road accident in eastern Ukraine on late Thursday, the State Service for Emergencies said in a statement Friday.

The accident occurred at 9:18 p.m. local time (1918 GMT), when a pickup vehicle carrying seven people veered off the road and plunged into the ditch on a rural road in the Kharkov region, the statement said.

Four people were killed on the spot, while two others died on their way to the hospital. A 29-year-old man was in critical condition.

According to preliminary investigation, bad weather conditions, including dense fog, were behind the accident.

From January to November of 2016, more than 2,900 people have been killed in over 138,000 road accidents in Ukraine. Endi
