Sofia airport sees 22-pct increase in passenger number in 2016

Sofia Airport of Bulgaria served 4,980,387 passengers in 2016, a 22-percent increase year-on-year, the airport said in a statement on Thursday.

The number of passengers on scheduled international flights increased 24 percent compared to 2015.

Five carriers -- Wizz Air, Bulgaria Air, Ryanair, Lufthansa, and Austrian Airlines -- transported more than 3.5 million passengers to and from the airport during the year, the statement said.

Meanwhile, 51,829 aircraft landed and took off from Sofia Airport, a 17-percent increase year on year, the statement added. Endit
