Xinhua, January 4, 2017 Adjust font size:

A man killed 10 of his family members, including six children, and hanged himself in the northern India state of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night, police found Wednesday.

The incident took place at Mahona village of Shuk Bazar in Amethi district, about 139 km southeast of Lucknow, capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

"Today, 11 persons including six children of a family were found murdered in Mahona village," said a local police official.

"Ten of the family members seem to have been killed by a sharp-edged weapon, whereas body of the family head (Jamal-ud-din) was found hanging on a rope," he said.

Only Jamal-ud-din's wife and daughter survived the mass murder, villagers said of the 13-member family.

"We expect to get vital details of this gruesome incident from the mother and the daughter once they regain their consciousness," the police official said. Endt
