Albania takes drastic measures to prevent spread of flu

Xinhua, January 4, 2017 Adjust font size:

Albanian authorities on Tuesday delayed the opening of schools and kindergartens after the New Years break due to the raising concerns over the spread of flu across the country, official sources informed.

Local media say the Albanian Ministry of Health released Tuesday an official statement ordering schools to remain closed this week until Jan. 7.

The ministry says the current flu outbreak has already affected thousands of people in the country, and the bad and freezing weather will create favorable conditions for further spread.

Meteorologists have forecast subfreezing temperatures across the country for several days.

The ministry also suggests people to stay at home, avoid big gatherings and keep away from people affected with flu.

Weather forecasters say that a snow is expected to wrap up the country while temperatures will drop to minus 15 degrees Celsius this weekend. Enditem
