S.Korean parliamentary speaker keeps promise to directly hire cleaners

Xinhua, January 2, 2017 Adjust font size:

South Korea's parliamentary speaker kept his promise to directly hire cleaners who had worked as contract employees for the National Assembly by the end of last year.

National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun of the biggest opposition Minjoo Party on Monday held a ceremony with sweepers who began to be directly hired by the parliament as regular workers from the day.

The direct employment of 207 cleaners was one of Chung's main pledges made in June when he took office.

Parliamentary cleaners will benefit from the normal welfare system, including bonuses for national holidays and costs for transportation. Endit
