Fire, explosion deaths surge in Vietnam in 2016

A total of 3,256 fires and explosions broke out across Vietnam in 2016, killing 135 people and injuring 278 others, while leaving losses of some 1,474 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 66.1 million U.S. dollars), the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department said Monday.

In 2015, the Southeast Asian country suffered 2,866 fires and explosions, which left 94 people dead and 294 others injured, and caused losses of nearly 905 billion Vietnamese dong (40.6 million dollars).

Last month alone, 384 fires and explosions occurred nationwide, claiming 20 lives and injuring 20 people, whiling leaving losses of 261 billion Vietnamese dong (11.7 million dollars). Enditem
