Tunisia welcomes cease-fire agreement in Syria

Xinhua, December 31, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tunisia welcomed the cease-fire agreement announced on Thursday by the Syrian government, part of the opposition, Russia and Turkey, said on Friday the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The different parties concerned must apply to the prerogatives of this agreement which will help the delivery of humanitarian aids to the affected regions and to the fighting victims," said the ministry in an official statement.

Through this agreement, Tunisia "hopes to see a comprehensive resolution that will serve the interests of the Syrian people," according to the same statement.

"Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, Tunisia has always insisted on the consensus as the only possible way to reach a political solution to the conflict in this country."

On Thursday, the signatories to the cease-fire agreement announced a complete halt of military operations throughout Syria from midnight. However, this agreement does not concern the fight against terrorism. Endit
