Spain sees higher tourist numbers in 2016

Spain welcomed 71.58 million foreign tourists in the first 11 months of 2016, more than the 68.1 million that visited the country in all of 2015.
Data published by the Spanish National Institute for Statistics (INE) on Friday showed 4.1 million tourists visited Spain in November, 9.2 percent higher than in 2015, setting a new record.
A total of 28.3 percent of November's visitors traveled to the Canary Islands for some late sunshine, while 24.7 percent went to Catalonia and 13.5 percent stayed in the southern region of Andalusia.
In the first 11 months of 2016, Spain welcomed almost 17 million British tourists, 12.3 percent up on the same period in 2015, while there were 10.8 million French and 10.7 million German tourists.
The preferred region for visiting was Catalonia, which welcomed 17 million tourists so far in 2016, 3.8 percent up on 2015.
Meanwhile, hotel occupancy rates saw an 8.3 percent increase in November, while there was also a steep (31.2 percent) rise in the number of people renting flats and apartments for the duration of their visit. Endit
