Luneng meets Wuhan in China's top table tennis league final

Xinhua, December 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Shandong Luneng and Wuhan Anxin set up a final clash of the women's Tennis Super League (CTTSL) after overcoming their opponents 3-1 respectively here on Thursday.

Luneng had to rely on Zhu Yuling, titleholder of the ITTF World Tour Grand Finals, for the spot in Saturday's final. Zhu scored two points against Bayi's Sun Mingyang and Mu Zi for Luneng.

"I handled all the challenges well and helped my team into the final eventually. I hope I can make even more improvements in the final," Zhu said.

Mu Zi leveled the overall score for Bayi beating Gu Yuting 3-0 in the second match, before Gu and Li Xiaodan got past Liu Xin and Sun Mingyang 2-0 in the doubles.

In an earlier semifinal between Wuhan and Shandong Qilu, world No. 2 Liu Shiwen had a 1-1 record, as she lost to Chen Xingtong in the second match but overcame Wen Jia in the fourth, both through a five-set thriller.

"I learned so much from this match. One needs to adjust quickly in difficult situations," said Liu.

Liu's teammates performed well as Feng Yalan dominated the opening match to finish a sweep over Wen Jia, before she and Liu Gaoyang added one point in the doubles. Endit
