A man suspected to be a thief was Tuesday morning killed at Gitaramuka in Karuzi province, some 150km northeast of the Burundian capital Bujumbura, Burundi-based Radio Isanganiro reported Wednesday.

The private radio reported that the man was killed by watchmen who caught him red-handed stealing potatoes in a plantation.

According to the radio, the man was killed by the watchmen who used their spears and machetes to kill him.

The radio said that two watchmen have been arrested for further investigations, adding that they have admitted the crime.
