Myanmar's gov't troops occupy 1 more armed group outpost

Xinhua, December 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar's government troops have seized a new outpost, Point-768 of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), and surrounding minor camps, said the Army Chief's Office Wednesday.

The government troops captured the outpost, called Lai Hpawng by KIA, on late Tuesday, supported by aerial bombardment and infantry, artillery, tank and other heavy weapons assault.

Located 11.2 km east of Myitgyina-Bhamo road, the KIA's Point-768 outpost was built to secure the communication route to KIA headquarters Liza.

On Dec. 16, government troops occupied Gidon Outpost, a KIA stronghold in Waingmaw.

Military conflicts erupted in border area of northern Myanmar's Shan state on Nov. 20 after an alliance of three armed groups launched attacks on government's military outposts and police stations in Muse and Kutkai towns as well as a border trade zone.

Sporadic clashes between the government troops and the three armed groups, Kachin Independence Army (KIA), Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Kokang's Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), continued up to date. Endit
