Gun battle kills 5 militants in northern Afghan province

Up to five militants were killed and five others injured as clash erupted between security forces and Taliban group in Jarqdaq locality some 2 km outside Jauzjan provincial capital Shiberghan city on Sunday, deputy to provincial police chief Abdul Hafiz Khashi said.

The clash, according to the official flared up after a group of Taliban militants stormed some checkpoints early Sunday and police returned fire forcing the rebels to flee.

Five more militants sustained injuries in the firefight. Taliban militants haven't commented on the report. Endit
