Germany's benchmark DAX index closes slightly down on Friday

The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday closed down 6.17 points, or 0.05 percent, at 11,449.93 points.

But the index recorded a weekly gain of 0.5 percent.

On the last day before Christmas holidays the DAX index opened at a new 2016 high of 11,480 points. After a fluctuating day the index closed almost unchanged into the long weekend.

Commerzbank fell 1.24 percent, followed by Volkswagen with a loss of 0.94 percent. After that Volkswagen reached a one billion agreement with U.S. authority to compensate impacted consumers in the diesel emission scandal, and the carmaker was also urged by EU Justice and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Vera Jourova to improve compensation for European consumers hit by the scandal.

Lufthansa gained 1.50 percent, followed by HeidelbergCement and Vonovia.

Deutsche Bank was the most active traded share of the day with a volume of 273.07 million euros (285.25 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
