Slovakia wins loan from EU bank on rural program

Slovakia Friday inked an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) on a loan worth 250 million euros (261 million U.S. dollars) for a rural program in Slovakia.

The agreement was signed by Slovak Finance Minister Peter Kazimir and EIB vice-president Vazil Hudak.

"It is tied to the operational program carried out by the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry, hence, primarily it will go to the agro sector," Kazimir said.

The loan's interest was at below one percent.

In 2014, EIB had signed a loan worth 120 million euros to finance investments in Slovak countryside. Endit
