The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Friday.
--Zambia has recorded 50 percent reduction in deaths from malaria since 2014, a senior government official has said.
Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said the country recorded a significant drop in malaria cases incidences from 405 cases per 1,000 in 2014 to 336 cases per 1,000 in 2015. (Zambia Daily Mail)
--The Zambian government has dismissed reports that state-sponsored agents have been assigned to assassinate the country's leading opposition leader.
Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo said it would be of no political value to assassinate Hakainde Hichilema, leader of the United Party for National Development (UPND).
The opposition leader has claimed that the riots by his supporters during a court session recently were stage managed by the government in an alleged scheme to assassinate him. (Daily Nation)
--The World Bank has said the implementation of Zambia's budget in 2016 has been characterized by weak commitment control and deteriorating credibility.
The World Bank said in its economic brief report on Zambia that the government failed to make the necessary expenditure adjustments in line with declining revenue targets.
