Vietnam estimated to earn 7.3 bln USD from wood, timber exports in 2016

Xinhua, December 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Export revenue of Vietnamese timber and wood products is estimated to reach 7.3 billion U.S. dollars, up 1 percent yer-on-year, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on Friday.

Among wood export items, wood chip remained the key product and China continued to be the main importer.

However, the country's wood chip is facing competitiveness in term of price with Thailand, Australia and some African nations, said Nguyen Ba Ngai, deputy head of the MARD's Forestry Administration.

In order to increase wood export quality and take control in material sources, Vietnam needs to improve the quality of planted forests, local Ha Noi Moi (New Hanoi) online newspaper quoted Ngai as saying.

According to the Forestry Administration, so far, the national timber plantation area hits 127,747 hectares, some 84 percent of which have qualified seeding sources. Endit
