Security cordon to be placed around Buckingham Palace during changing of guard

Xinhua, December 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Road closures for one of London's most popular military ceremonies, the Changing of the Guard, came into force Wednesday around Buckingham Palace.

The security cordon around the official home of Queen Elizabeth will continue for a three month trial period, London's Metropolitan Police announced in a statement.

It means that Constitution Hill, the Queen Victoria Memorial, Spur Road, Link Road and the famous Mall will be closed to vehicles between approximately 10:45 and 12:30 on the days of Changing the Guard outside Buckingham Palace.

Currently, a rolling road closure is put in place to allow the ceremonial event to take place.

The closure follows a request from the Metropolitan Police Service as part of ongoing security measures aimed at keeping the public safe, with the closure plan brought forward following Monday's attack in Berlin. Endit
