41 districts to experience flooding in Zambia

Xinhua, December 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Forty-one out of 103 districts in Zambia are expected to experience flooding in the current rainy season, an agency responsible for disasters said on Wednesday.

"Acting on the forecast availed by the Zambia Meteorological Department and the daily updates we have been receiving, 41 districts are likely to experience flooding this season," Anderson Banda, head of information management systems at the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, was quoted as saying by the Times of Zambia.

The agency, he said, has since started mobilizing and putting in place measures to handle any occurrence of disasters in the districts to ensure that relief to the probable victims will be availed as soon as the adversity occurs.

The agency is currently working with the meteorological body to ensure that any disasters likely to occur due to adverse weather conditions are adequately handled, he added. Endit
