UAE hails formation of Lebanese new cabinet

Xinhua, December 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

The United Arab Emirates has congratulated Lebanese President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister Saad Hariri on the formation of a new government, UAE state news agency WAM reported on Tuesday.

In a cable, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed expressed his best wishes for Lebanon and the Lebanese people, wishing them continuous progress, prosperity, security and safety.

The new cabinet is the 73rd since the declaration of Lebanon's independence in 1943 and is composed of 30 ministers.

Lebanon was in a political deadlock after the six-year term of former President Michel Suleiman ended on May 25, 2014.

On Feb. 23, 2016, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation upgraded an existing travel warning to Lebanon to a complete ban. Endit
