Greece condemns murder of Russian envoy to Turkey, Greek national among injured

Greece's Foreign Ministry on Monday strongly condemned the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey in a gun shot during which a Greek national was also lightly injured.

"We unequivocally condemn the deadly terrorist attack... We are appalled by this murder aimed to cause tension and regional instability," the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We express sincere condolences to the Russian government and the diplomat's family," it said.

The Turkish authorities confirmed that a Greek national was among the injured by the gunman.

According to Greek national news agency AMNA, the Greek man had to undergo a surgery and was hospitalized in an Ankara hospital.

Earlier on Monday, a gunman shot dead Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov, while he was giving a speech at an art exhibition in the Turkish capital. Endit
