The official cultural program of the 2017 Maltese presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), themed 'rEUnion', was launched on Monday.

Malta will assume the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the EU on Jan. 1, 2017.

Ian Borg, Malta's parliamentary secretary for EU funds and the EU presidency, said "the citizen is right at the center of the 2017 Maltese EU presidency, and this is reflected in the multidisciplinary nature of its varied culture program, with over 90 different events set to take place across the Maltese islands, in the central hub of Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg, and across the globe."

The official opening ceremony of the 2017 Maltese EU presidency is scheduled for Jan. 11, Borg announced.

The culture program will include events covering several different disciplines such as photography, painting, architecture, digital arts, music, singing, dance, theater, fashion and history.

The 2017 Maltese EU presidency culture program also features the Maltese islands and different aspects which make up their geographical, historical, anthropological and social realities. Endit
