1st LD Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Monday

Chinese stocks closed lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.16 percent, closing at 3,118.08 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index finished 0.5 percent lower at 10,283.16 points. The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style enterprises, lost 0.89 percent to close at 1,980.41 points.

Turnover on the two exchanges stood at 399.6 billion yuan (about 57.9 billion U.S. dollars), shrinking from 433.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Agriculture-related shares posted the biggest gains.

The pesticide and fertilizer sectors grew 1.65 percent on Monday, while agriculture, forestry, husbandry and fisheries increased 1.05 percent. Endi
