EIB grants 120-mln-euro loan for underground upgrade in Netherlands

Xinhua, December 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

The European Investment Bank (EIB) on Wednesday granted a loan of 120 million euros (127.9 million U.S. dollars) to support the underground network upgrade in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The financing will benefit the acquisition of 22 new underground trains and the railway security upgrade of the Rotterdam underground network, according to the statement.

The loan will be used to purchase 16 new underground trains, which will operate on the line between Rotterdam and Hook of Holland, a town in the west of the Netherlands.

Six new trains will also be purchased to increase frequency of service between Rotterdam and The Hague.

The new trains will be put into service from 2017. New security systems will also be installed on the Rotterdam underground network. Endit
