Morocco, Nigeria discuss means to implement joint gas pipeline project

Xinhua, December 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Moroccan King Mohammed VI chaired a working session on the gas pipeline project from Nigeria to Morocco on Tuesday at the Royal Palace in Casablanca, local media reported on Wednesday.

The daily Le Matin noted that the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project was initiated in Marrakech during the meeting between King Mohammed VI and Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari on the sidelines of Climate Change conference and was finalized in Abuja during the king's visit in December.

The working session was attended by high-ranking officials from Morocco as well as Nigerian officials appointed by President Buhari, the source pointed out.

The working session is part of concrete measures taken to promote this project for regional countries, it added.

According to the daily, this strategic gas pipeline, which will pass through several West African countries and may stretch up towards Europe, will promote an integrated North West African zone, enable the region to become energy independent, accelerate the implementation of electrification projects and develop important economic and industrial activities.

The discussions focused on the project's technical feasibility and financing, added the same source. Endit
