Tokyo shares close flat by break ahead of Fed meeting outcome

Tokyo shares closed flat by break Wednesday morning as market players awaited the outcome of the Federal Reserve's policy meeting due later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 15.06 points, or 0.08 percent, from Tuesday to 19,235.46.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 2.35 points, or 0.15 percent, to 1,537.90.

Gainers were led by rubber product, and electric and gas issues, while decliners were led by oil and coal product, and nonferrous metal issues. Endit
