Tokyo shares open flat awaiting Fed meeting results

Tokyo shares opened almost flat Wednesday as market players await the results of the Federal Reserve's policy meeting due later in the day.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 11.73 points, or 0.06 percent, from Tuesday to 19,238.79.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 0.51 points, or 0.03 percent, to 1,539.74.

Gainers were led by rubber product, and electric and gas issues, while decliners were led by oil and coal product, and wholesale trade issues. Endit
