Slovenian president says visit to Turkey about trust-building, cooperation

Slovenian President Borut Pahor said here Tuesday that his coming two-day visit to Turkey was to enhance mutual trust and cooperation between Slovenia and Turkey as well as the EU and Turkey.

The president is to pay a visit to Turkey at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).

It is crucial for all sides to preserve constructive dialogue. "We need each other" and have to mutually support each other in the resolution of problems, Pahor told reporters at a press conference dedicated to the visit.

Pahor said he had accepted the invitation after careful deliberation, consultations at home and in the EU, and additional talks with Erdogan, the STA report said.

He attributes Erdogan's invitation to the "traditionally good" relations between the two countries and the fact that Slovenia and Turkey forged a strategic partnership in 2011. Endit
