China eyes stable Sino-U.S. relations after Rex Tillerson State Department pick

China Tuesday voiced hope for stable development of relations with the United States after reports that Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson would become secretary of state.

"It is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples to maintain healthy and stable bilateral relations," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang at a daily press briefing.

Geng said he had noticed reports that President-elect Donald Trump has selected Rex Tillerson to lead the State Department.

China hopes to work with the person to promote bilateral relations for further development no matter who becomes the new secretary of state, Geng added. Endi
