Poland to liberalize sports betting, online poker: deputy PM

Xinhua, December 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Polish government is working on a new gambling bill which would liberalize sports betting and online poker in the country, Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Gowin said Monday.

Gowin, who also acts as science and higher education minister, said "Poland suffered enormous, multibillion losses" as a result of the current gambling-prohibiting bill, which was introduced by former Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

"That is why a few months ago we decided to change the law so that money can flow back into the budget," Gowin said.

The bill prohibiting gambling, which was introduced in 2009, banned gambling outside casinos and online.

Gowin said that for the next several months, gambling would remain in the gray zone. Endit
