S. Africa to continue supporting efforts against terrorism: Zuma

Xinhua, December 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

South Africa will continue to support regional and international efforts to address the scourge of terrorism in all its forms, President Jacob Zuma pledged on Monday.

Zuma was speaking following terrorist attacks in Yemen, Turkey and Somalia over the weekend.

On behalf of the government and the people of South Africa, Zuma extended the country's deepest condolences to the governments and people of Yemen, Turkey and Somalia.

"The South African Government condemns in the strongest terms the deadly terrorist attacks that took place in Yemen, Turkey and Somalia this weekend," Zuma said in a statement.

Terrorism in any form and from whichever quarter cannot be condoned, said Zuma.

"We will continue to support regional and international efforts to address the scourge of terrorism in all its forms," he said.

The president stressed that deliberate attacks against civilians are contraventions of well-established international human rights and humanitarian law and constitute crimes against humanity.

Terrorist attacks occurred this weekend in Aden, Istanbul and Mogadishu respectively, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of scores of people. Enditem
