Morocco strongly condemns deadly church attack in Egypt

Xinhua, December 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Morocco has strongly condemned as "cowardly" a bomb attack that targeted on Sunday a Coptic church in Egypt's capital Cairo, local media reported on Monday.

The attack on the church, adjacent to the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral, killed 25 people, mostly Christians, and wounded dozens of others.

"Morocco strongly condemns this criminal terrorist act which runs counter universal human values and the principles of heavenly religions," Morocco's Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by daily le Matin.

The ministry extended its condolences to the families of the victims and the Egyptian people.

It stressed Morocco's solidarity with Egypt in countering terrorist acts, regardless of their origins or their motives.

The statement called for coordinating efforts at the international level to face the scourge of terrorism that threatens international peace and stability, adding that terrorism should not be associated with any culture, religion or civilization. Endit
