Sudan threatens to adopt other measures if rebels insist to reject negotiation

Xinhua, December 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Sudanese government on Sunday threatened to adopt other measures if the armed groups insisted to reject negotiation and continued fighting at Blue Nile, South Kordofan and Darfur regions.

"If the armed groups refused to resort to negotiation, then there will be other options to achieve peace at South Kordofan, Blue Nile and Darfur," Kamal Ismail, Sudan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, told reporters Sunday.

"Few days remain before elapse of the truce provided by President (Omar) al-Bashir for the armed movements regarding the negotiation about the two areas and Darfur," he noted.

Last November, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir availed a truce for the armed groups to join the document of the national dialogue which was approved by the participants in the national dialogue conference which concluded last Oct. 10.

The Sudanese minister further reiterated that the doors of peace are still open whenever the movements want to negotiate to achieve peace.

He renewed Sudan government's commitment to negotiation and dialogue to achieve security and stability if the movements backtracked from their obstinate stances before the end of the year.

Several rounds of peace talks have failed between the Sudanese government and the Darfur armed groups and the rebels of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector who are fighting at Blue Nile and South Kordofan regions. Endit
