UNHCR sends 500 tons of humanitarian aid to East Ukraine

Xinhua, December 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has sent a 54-truck convoy with some 500 tons of humanitarian aid to the conflict-torn eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said here on Friday.

"The vehicles have delivered construction materials, food packages, furniture and heaters to local people," Lysenko told a media briefing.

The relief materials were supplied to civilians living in the areas in Lugansk and Donetsk regions that fell beyond the government control, he added.

According to the UN estimates, the 31-month-old conflict between government troops and pro-independence insurgents in eastern Ukraine left some 3.8 million people on both sides of the frontline in need of humanitarian assistance. Endit
