1st LD Writethru: Police arrest terror suspect in Rotterdam

The Dutch police have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of preparing a terrorist crime in Rotterdam, the Dutch public prosecutor announced on Friday.

The arrest took place on Wednesday. The police also found a Kalashnikov AK-47 with two full rounds of ammunition in the suspect's house during the arrest.

The suspect is to be brought before the examining magistrate in Rotterdam and detained for two weeks.

The police also seized a large painting with an image of a flag used by the Islamic State (IS) group, mobile phones and 1,600 euros (1,690 U.S. dollars) of cash. Furthermore, the police found four boxes of highly explosive fireworks in the house.

Information given to the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) triggered the investigation by the National Criminal Investigation Department. Endit
