Xinhua, December 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

The number of people killed in road traffic accidents in Germany is expected to reach a new all-time low in 2016, official data showed on Thursday.

The number of traffic accident fatalities, expected to decline for the first time in three years, will be about 3,300 in 2016, down by nearly 5 percent year on year, according to estimates of the Federal Statistical Office Destatis based on data available for the first nine months of 2016.

However, the number of people injured in accidents is expected to rise slightly by more than 1 percent to approximately 400,000.

In addition, the total number of accidents registered by the police is expected to increase by 3 percent to roughly 2.6 million by the end of this year, which represents the highest level recorded since 1990, Destatis reported. Endit
