Estonia continues to fulfill obligations as NATO member country: PM

Xinhua, December 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Visiting Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas said here on Wednesday that Estonia will continue to meet its obligations as a NATO member country.

In a press conference held after his meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila, Ratas said his government will allocate more resources to the security policy.

As for the relations with Russia, Ratas stated that Estonia supports the European Union's joint decisions.

On behalf of Estonia, Ratas said he wished the new U.S. president Donald Trump good luck and success during his term in office.

Trump announced last week that James N. Mattis would be nominated to serve as U.S. Secretary of Defense in the coming administration. Ratas said it is a positive sign, as Mattis knows Estonia and the Baltic region well.

Ratas said Estonian foreign and security policies will remain unchanged as what they have been for the last 25 years. He also emphasized the significance of NATO to Estonia.

Ratas assumed office on November 23 this year. He visited Finland on Wednesday on the invitation of Sipila. The visit to Finland is Ratas' first trip abroad as the prime minister of Estonia. Enditem
