Three people arrested in Belgium accused of taking part in extremist activities

A total of eight people arrested in East Flanders were taken to court in Belgium on Tuesday,in an investigation by the federal prosecutor's office on terrorism, local media reported on Wednesday.

Three of them have been placed under arrest warrants and charged with participating in the activities of an extremist group.

The eight people were arrested on Tuesday in nine searches in Saint-Nicolas, Antwerp, Bruges and Schaerbeek during which neither weapons nor explosives were discovered.

They were suspected of recruiting people to go to Syria and financially supporting the Islamic State.

Three of them were placed under arrest warrants while the other five were released after hearing. Endit
