Bishkek among top 10 most popular travel destinations for Russians

Xinhua, December 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kyrgyzstan's capital city Bishkek was included in the top 10 most popular travel destinations in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for Russian tourists in 2016, the hotel search service RoomGuru reported Wednesday.

Bishkek ranked ninth in the CIS, a regional organization formed during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The ranking was made based on year-round hotel booking data in 2016.

According to RoomGuru, in 2016 Russian tourists spent an average of 53 U.S. dollars to stay one and a half nights on average at hotels in Bishkek.

RoomGuru, granted the World Travel Awards in 2015, has been recognized as one of the world's best search engines for hotels in the past four years.

Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to the development of its tourism industry. In April, the Kyrgyz government approved a state program to develop tourism until 2020.

The important role of tourism in addressing social problems, creating jobs and improving the well-being of the population, particularly in rural areas, is also specified in the National Sustainable Development Strategy for the Kyrgyz Republic for the period of 2013-2017, which was approved by the government in January.
