PARIS -- French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday appointed incumbent Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve the new prime minister to replace Manuel Valls, as the latter has decided to quit the job, according to the Elysee.

Hollande has picked Cazeneuve to succeed Valls as the prime minister until the end of the Socialist Party's five year term next May, the Elysee said in a statement. (France-PM-Appointment)

BAMAKO, Mali -- Two prison guards were wounded and 93 detainees escaped during an attack on Niono prison on Tuesday morning in the region of Segou, 240 km north of Mali's capital city Bamako, Xinhua learned from a source who preferred to remain anonymous.
