One militant was killed and three Afghan civilians were wounded after an explosion ripped through a intersection in Kunduz city, capital of northern Kunduz province on Tuesday, police said.

"The blast occurred roughly at 3:00 p.m. in Rasta-e-Hangaran locality when a militant tried to plant a sticky bomb into a vehicle parked near at site but the device exploded prematurely killing the militant on the spot," Mahfozullah Akbari, police spokesman in the northern zone, told Xinhua.

Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital by police and none of the wounded received life-threatening wounds, he said.

Among the injured was a senior government official, according to unofficial sources.
