Laos to compete at regional vovinam championship

The Lao team will compete at the fourth Vovinam Championship of the Southeast Asian Vovinam Federation (SEAVF) to be held in Cambodia on Jan. 11-14, 2017.
Currently, Lao men and women competitors are training for fighting and dancing events. Lao vovinam coach Viengsouk Hangngeun was quoted by local Vientiane Times as saying on Monday that Lao vovinam team with its experience would have a good opportunity to win gold medals at the tournament.
After finishing the tournament in Cambodia, the Lao team will turn their attention to competing at the World Vovinam Championships in 2017.
At the Asian Beach Games held in September and October this year in Vietnam, the Lao vovinam team won one gold and six bronze medals.
The Lao vovinam team's other successes include one gold, four silver and six bronze medals at the Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam in 2009; two gold and five bronze medals at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Indonesia in 2011; along with two gold, three silver and four bronze medals at the SEA Games in Myanmar in 2013.
The team also won four gold medals at the ASEAN Vovinam Championship in Myanmar in 2013.
At the third Vovinam Championship in 2014, the Lao team placed third with five gold medals.
Vovinam is a Vietnamese martial art which involves both unarmed and weapon combat. Endit
