The Bulgarian authorities have neutralized a five-member criminal group responsible for illegal production and sale of arms, the second such case in two weeks, officials said on Saturday.

In searches of seven locations in the town of Stara Zagora on Friday, the police seized 16 pistols, eight rifles, five barrels, 806 bullets, as well as a large quantity of explosives and detonators, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the authorities arrested the members of the gang, five men aged from 43 to 69, the ministry said.

"Two of them are employees of a weapons company," it added.

On Nov. 18, the police in Sofia arrested six sellers of illegal weapons, and seized 50 Uzi submachine guns, as well as pistols of various brands and 250 bullets. Endit
