Giant Rube Goldberg machine lights Christmas tree in Riga

Xinhua, December 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Riga attempted to set a new Guinness record on Friday by lighting the Christmas tree in front of the Town Hall with a contraption or Rube Goldberg machine, the local authority of the Latvian capital city said.

Scandiweb company created the giant Rube Goldberg machine, assembling 400 various links to ensure a chain reaction that was set into motion at the Riga Town Hall and ended in the square outside.

Riga mayor Nils Usakovs turned the device on, launching the chain reaction that eventually culminated in switching on the lights on the Christmas tree.

The event was watched by a large crowd who cheered as the Christmas tree was lighted with the help of the unusual device.

Seida Tsubaki-Gemini, a representative of the Guinness World Records, was present at the event in Riga to verify the world record. The Guinness World Records has yet to confirm it. Endit
