Zambia's teacher regulation initiative records 111,000 applications

Xinhua, December 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Over 111,000 teachers have applied to be registered under Zambia's new initiative aimed at regulating the teaching profession, a senior official said Friday.

The Zambian government has asked all teachers in the country to be registered under an initiative to ensure professionalism and recruitment of qualified teachers.

Ebby Mubanga, registrar at the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ), said so far over 111,000 applications have been received, forcing them to extend the deadline as more teachers were still coming forward to register.

The TCZ had initially set November 30 as the deadline but this has since been extended to December 15.

The registration began in June this year. The move has been lauded by stakeholders who believe it will enhance professionalism in the teaching profession. Endit
