Xinhua, December 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte congratulated U.S. President-elect Donald Trump Friday night on his victory in the recently concluded election.

Duterte extended his congratulations by calling up Trump from the southern City of Davao.

"Very engaging and animated phone conversation between President Duterte and President-elect Trump," Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go posted on his Facebook page in describing the talks of the two leaders.

The conversation lasted for about seven minutes, he said.

According to Go, Trump invited Duterte to visit the White House next year.

Duterte, for his part, invited Trump to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit and related summits, which the Philippines will be hosting next year, he added.

ASEAN will be celebrating its 50th founding anniversary in 2017. Endit
