China voices disapproval of "unilateral moves" in Yemen

Xinhua, December 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

China on Friday voiced support to Yemen's legitimate government and disapproval of unilateral moves that could complicate the situation.

Yemen's Shiite Houthi group and its ally -- former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's party -- on Monday declared the formation of a "national salvation government," a step taken unilaterally away from Yemen's legitimate and internationally-recognized government.

"We are not in favor of unilateral moves by any side that could complicate the situation, as this is not conducive to solving the issue through political means," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said, according to a press release from the ministry.

He called on relevant sides to continue negotiations to narrow differences, and strive to reach a balanced solution accepted by all sides, based on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. Endi
