Hungarian PM promises to cooperate with Malta during EU presidency

Xinhua, December 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Hungary is ready to cooperate with Malta during the latter's European Union presidency, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Thursday, the Hungarian News Agency reported.

Orban made the remarks after meeting with his Maltese counterpart Joseph Muscat.

Orban said Hungary will be a good partner despite being members of different political groupings, since Muscat represents Labor and Orban is a Conservative.

Nonetheless, Orban said, Hungary and Malta have been friendly for a very long time and Hungary has welcomed Maltese investors.

Muscat said he liked having businesses from his country invest in Hungary and announced that the two countries would be connected by a direct air link in the near future. He underlined the importance of a liberal economic policy and of job creation.

There are no permanent solutions amidst changing global and European interactions, he said, but during the Maltese presidency he wanted to see progress.

Malta, the smallest member of the EU, will take over as President of the Council of the European Union in January 2017, and will hold it until the end of June. Endit
