Xinhua, December 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev on Thursday proposed to hold presidential elections in October 2017 at the annual year-end press conference here.

He said that there are many who want to become president, even more than last time.

"During the last five years we were busy transferring power peacefully. The last parliamentary elections were transparent with no protest actions. Presidential elections will also be held like that," he said.

He suggested that if possible, there should be two rounds of elections.

The annual year-end press conference of the Kyrgyz president was attended by more than 130 journalists from local and foreign media.

During the three-hour press conference, the Kyrgyz leader reviewed his work in 2016 and addressed other issues including the country's political situation, a number of economic projects, the world's situation and main achievements in Kyrgyzstan-China cooperation. Endi
