Myanmar-China border trade drops due to conflicts

Xinhua, December 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Border trade between Myanmar's northern Shan state and China plunded over 210 million U.S. dollars as of Nov. 25 in the 2016-2017 fiscal year due to military conflicts, the Myanmar Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday.

The trade value during the period reached 3.201 billion U.S. dollars while that of the same period of last fiscal year 2015-2016 was 3.411 billion U.S. dollars.

Border trade activities at the Muse trade zone, Myanmar's largest border trade point with China, were suspended since last week following military attacks on government outposts and the Muse trade zone by three ethnic armed groups on Nov. 20.

The Muse border trade zone re-opened on Nov. 25 as stability started to resume amid sporadic clashes. Enditem
